Spain calls on South Korea for greater market access
Spain’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Miquel Nadal has called upon Korean officials to ease the restrictions that have largely prevented the import of Spanish leather, ships, produce and meat into the country.
Speaking at an official visit to Seoul last week, the minister stated that trade relations between the European Union and South Korea could move no further forward, so long as the Asian nation’s ‘one-sided’ trade policy remains in place.
"Korea must understand that it is not wise to allow the international community see it as a country that restricts the development of foreign activity," Nadal said.
With regard to restrictions on EU ship sales to South Korea, the Secretary of State said he told Seoul officials that Europe hoped to work out a friendly solution. However, he did not rule out taking the dispute before the World Trade Organisation.
"There must be a clear political willingness to begin to change things a little," he said.
