Hong Kong shoemakers look to mainland for future production needs
Over one hundred members of the Hong Kong Leather Shoe & Shoe Material Industry Association took part in the Fifth National Shoe Material & Industrial Equipment Exhibition held in Dongguan, China.
It is reported that this was the first time that so many Hong Kong enterprises had gathered at an exhibition held on the Chinese mainland, reflecting the continuing shift in shoe-making from Hong Kong to the mainland provinces of Guangdong and Fujian.
The Hong Kong Leather Shoe & Shoe Material Industry Association has over 400 members including retailers, wholesalers, designers and shoe-making enterprises. The director of Association, Mr. Miao qicai, declared at the exhibition that he would spare no effort in urging his members to adopt the latest shoe-making technologies, so that the momentum already established would continue to build.
He also said the association would continue to encourage its members to relocate their production to the Chinese mainland because of its low labour costs and government incentives.
