28/05/2001

Kevin M. Burke, vice president of government relations for the Food Distributors International, is to take over as president of the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA).

Burke, who will begin work at AAFA in early June, has previously served as vice president, government relations, for Food Distributors International (FDI), which represents food wholesalers to independent grocers and restaurants. Burke has been active in all phases of the association's outreach effort to Congress, the White House and federal agencies. He has also served as vice president of government relations for the American Bakers Association, and in a similar position with the National Association of Broadcasters. Burke will succeed Larry Martin who retires this summer.

Martin became president of the American Apparel Manufacturers Association (AAMA) in January 1995, and president of the newly formed American Apparel & Footwear Association in August 2000 following a merger of the AAMA with Footwear Industries of America (FIA) and the Fashion Association (TFA).
