FLAQTIC invites technical papers for XV Congress
New tanning technologies will be discussed in Bahia, Brazil, at the XV Congress of the Latin-American Federation of Leather Chemists and Technicians - FLAQTIC.
The Congress will be held 10 - 13 October 2001 and present important innovations for the tanning sector. Organiser Dieter Lehmann says the theme of this year’s conference will be technologies that convert hides into leather with minimal environmental impact, and which result in affordable, quality leathers.
The XV FLAQTIC Congress is open to all areas of interest within the leather industry, from fundamental research of collagen, chemistry and its interactive reactions to environmental issues.
FLAQTIC says preference will be given to those papers that are of immediate, practical help to chemists and technicians working in the leather trade. It would especially welcome papers on:
* Continuous mode effluent purification.
* Closed water cycle – total recyclability, "ad infinitum", of purified water resulting from the treatment of liquid effluent.
* Case studies on the physical and chemical behaviour of vein tissue, resulting from various techniques and degrees of conservation and exposure to tanning processes. Also, techniques that help diminish and prevent the evidence of veins in bovine leather.
* The processing of goat and sheep skins.
* Processes that enable solid wastes generated by the leather industry to be used as a raw material in other industrial or agro-industrial sectors.
The technical and scientific program will include lectures, visual displays and analysis and question and answer sessions on the papers presented. . Visits to industrial installations in the leather and petrochemical sectors will be an important part of the technical program.
FLAQTIC says the deadlines for the papers are as follows:
Presentation of Summaries......................... 30 June
Final Reception of lectures ..........................30 July
Potential contributors are asked to contact FLAQTIC on 55-21 (51) 561-2761
