Sri Lankan tannery unveils plans for new complex

Sri-Lanka’s largest leathermaker, One Group, has issued a tender for equipment for an advanced new tanning complex it has planned for South Colombo.

Designed and commissioned with the assistance of the United States Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Sri Lankan Government, the new facility will be served by a modern effluent treatment plant and testing laboratories. With a capacity of 500,000 sq. ft per month, it will be capable of processing domestic cow and buffalo hides from their raw state right through to finish leather. A second phase processing imported cow hides is also envisaged, bringing the eventual capacity of the complex up to 750,000 sq.ft. per month.

One group says preference will be given to those organisations with experience of similar schemes.
