BTP Chief Executive appointed to Clariant board
Stephen J. Hannam, Chief Executive Officer of the former BTP plc, has been appointed to the board of the Swiss Chemical giant Clariant.
The appointment was announced at the company’s sixth annual meeting in Basle last week, at which Dr Rolf W. Schweizer, was reconfirmed as chairman for a further year, despite having reached the age limit of 70 years.
Reinhard Handte, 55, Clariant's chief operating officer, has taken over Mr Schweizer's role as chief executive. Mr Schweizer told the AGM that the increasing public criticism of company chairmen in Switzerland had made it "increasingly difficult to find people willing to take on this demanding role," hence the reappointment of Dr Schweizer for another year.
Robert Raeber, Executive Vice President Europe of Nestlé SA und Dr Dieter Seebach, Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich were also appointed to the board.
