21/05/2001

The press officer of the Novosibirsk epidemiological office has revealed that around thirty cows have been destroyed following an outbreak of rabies in the area. It is suspected that the virus is spread mainly by wild foxes that approach villages and attack people and dogs. All domestic animals are being vaccinated and a special team of hunters has been put together to shoot the foxes. As a preventive measure all meat processing as well as meat sales have been prohibited in Novosibirsk region.
