Turkmen hides and skins exports up 230% in Q1 2001

The national institute of statistics for the Central Asian Republic of Turkmenistan has reported that exports of the country’s hides and skins increased by 230% during the first quarter of 2001. Other big rises were recorded in the export of carpets (up 720%) and fertilisers (up 200%).

The country’s main export markets were Ukraine, Iran, Italy, Russia, Turkey, Tajikistan and Great Britain, which together accounted for 91% of all exports in value terms.

The country's total foreign trade turnover was $271 million, which is a 35 per cent increase on Q1 2000.
