Vietnam looks to boost leather and footwear exports
Vietnam’s Ministry of Trade has called on Prime Minister Phan Van Khai for improved measures to support the export of leather and footwear, as well as rice, coffee garments, fine arts and handicraft articles, aquatic produce, vegetables, fruit and meat. The ministry hopes this will boost exports in the remaining months of 2001.
The ministry also plans to boost the profile of Vietnamese products abroad, through the opening of overseas trade centres and more ‘Export Awareness’ forums for industrial managers.
Forums have already been held for 1,500 export managers and representatives of foreign-invested enterprises in Vinh Phu, Can Tho, Binh Duong Provinces, and Haiphong, Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang cities.
Vietnam’s export revenues totalled $4.89 billion US in the first four months of 2001 - 17.7% up on the same period the year before. The country has forecast $16.76 billion from exports in 2001.
