Leather sofa prices ‘to increase $50 to $100 dollars’ – Leathercraft head

30/04/2001

The head of the US-based leather furniture manufacturer, Leathercraft , Jack Donahoe, was quoted in the US press last week as saying he expected the current hide shortage situation will drive up the cost of the company’s sofas by around $50 at the wholesale level and $100 at retail.  He further predicted wholesale prices will continue to rise over the next six months unless conditions change ‘dramatically for the better.’

"All we can do right now is react," he said. "This first round of price increases could be the tip of the iceberg."

Elsewhere in the same article, another manufacturer, American Leather, said it is telling buyers it is increasing prices for leather sofas and other pieces by 4 %.
