Don’t use the leather shortages as an excuse to raise prices’ - furniture industry analyst
Together with rising interest rates and the slowdown in consumer spending, the current shortage of leather was last week cited as one of the top concerns now facing the US furniture making industry.
Speaking at the opening of the world's biggest furniture and trade show last week, the International Home Furnishings Market at North Point, North Carolina, the industry analyst Jerry Epperson said the leather shortage was ‘a big deal’ for the furniture making industry, which has just suffered its fourth consecutive quarter of decline. To help the industry, he called upon the government to keep interest rates down, and for leather suppliers not use the shortage as an excuse to raise prices.
