Some you Won – Korean hide price hikes overtaken by exchange rate/oil woes

23/04/2001

In its report "The Outlook for the Overhead Price by Production Processes during March 2001" the Bank of Korea (BOK) has revealed that the price of leather and processed leather increased by 0.8% during March compared with the previous month – the main reason being the rise in the international price of raw materials, brought about by the European outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

However, the increase was much less than the 5.9% increase reported in the price of manufacturing raw materials overall, brought about by the slide in the value of the Korean Won against the dollar during the month, and also rising oil prices.
