Polish wet blue plant goes out of business

16/04/2001

One of Poland’s last state-owned tanneries – Wel in Lidzbark Welski, Olsztyn Voivodship, has declared itself bankrupt with the loss of 58 jobs.

The liquidator has blamed poor management, over-staffing and poor sales for the tannery’s demise, though it is understood that efforts are still being made by the liquidator and local authorities to find a new owner. The Wel tannery was best known in Poland as a processor of cattle hides from raw to wet blue stage.
