Peru invests in clean production centre for leather tanning
Peru’s mining, fishing and leather tanning industries together account for 70% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Now, the national environment regulator, Conam, is to establish Peru’s first clean production centre, which will be aimed at promoting cleaner production processes within the country’s main industries.
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and Switzerland's economic state secretary SECO have each donated US$1million for the operation of the centre, which will be managed by Peru's national industry society SNI, national agrarian university La Molina and Lima University.
