China bans hide imports – hides in transit to be ‘sent back or destroyed’

China last week extended its ban on EU beef to include all beef products, including hides, due to worries over BSE.
The country has also prohibited the import of cloven -hoofed livestock and meat products from countries where the Foot and Mouth Disease has been confirmed, including France, Argentina, Britain and Mongolia. Chinese state media has reported that products in transit would either be returned to their country of origin, or destroyed.
