EU lifts ban on export of French hides
The European Union’s ban on the export of hides from France to other EU countries was lifted last week (April 2) because no further cases of foot and mouth disease had been found since the ban was imposed on March 12.
Covering consignments of leather, as well as unprocessed meat products and unpasteurised milk, the ban still applies to products sourced from the regions of Seine-et-Marne, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val d'Oise, which are close to the second case of foot and mouth, discovered on March 23. The ban on live exports still applies, though this will automatically expire on April 12 if no new cases come to light.
