Spanish footwear and leather goods output in 2000

According to data provided by Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries (FICE) and the Spanish Association of Leather Goods, Travel Article and Related Products (ASEFMA), leather goods exports last year increased by some 20% and footwear by 6%.

The Spanish leather industry provides employment to some 96,244 workers – of which 47,030,000 are engaged in the production of footwear and 24.5 million in leather articles. Annual production in 2000 was worth Pta896 billion ($4.8 billion), of which footwear accounted for Pta504 billion or 202.6 million pairs. 64.6% of this footwear went for export.

With regard to the domestic market, consumption per capita throughout 2000 amounted to 3.5 pairs per person, per year, amounting to 141 million pairs worth Pta290 billion.
