Malaysia to put the squeeze of counterfeit producers
Life for the producers of counterfeit leather goods in Malaysia looks set to become more difficult, with the announcement that the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is looking to hire special personnel to monitor their activities.
"We will identify those who can be the ministry's informers," said Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. "In the meantime, we will provide incentives to those who can give information on the counterfeit operations."
Muhyiddin was speaking to reporters after officiating at the opening of the National Conference on "Recent Developments in Intellectual Property - The Impact on Emerging Economies" organised by the Malaysian Intellectual Property Association and the Asian Patent Attorneys Association Malaysia Group.
