Japan imports fewer shoes in 2000

Latest figures released by the International Council of Tanners (ICT) show that during January – October 2000, Japan imported 24.5 million pairs of leather footwear – down 4% on the same period the year before, 11.96 million sewed shoe uppers (up 38.6%), and 31 million handbags, bags and small leather articles (up 7.3%). The country imported two and a half times the quantity of leather clothing than it did in 1999, at 4.4 million suits.
