Removal of US tannery waste begins
01/04/2001
Inspectors from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last week (commencing 26.03.01) began moving containers of hazardous chemicals to a staging area for removal from a defunct leather tannery in Middlesboro, Kentucky.
More than 1,000 containers of chemicals were discovered at the abandoned Middlesboro Tanning Co. property. A response team from the agency will begin removing the containers in May.
