Job losses at UK footwear manufacturer

The UK footwear producer, Startrite, is to make 100 redundancies at its Norwich factory, having decided to source a large proportion of its leather uppers from India.
The company, which is well known for providing footwear to younger members of the British royal family, expects to save £2.5million (£3.5 million) a year from the cost-saving measure, which will involve the import of an estimated one million leather uppers.
