3M to retain Scotchgard branding

26/03/2001
In May 2000, the 3M company of the United States announced that it was to phase out the manufacture of perfluorooctanyl materials, which included current formulations of Scotchgard protection for the leather market.

However, the company last week annonced that the name is to be retained and applied to a whole new range of environmentally-sustainable products, which are due to enter the marketplace in 2002.

In the meantime, 3M will use existing stocks of the formulation to supply tanneries that have a Scotchgard brand license agreement, and other producers of leather goods.
