Gloomy Poznan Fashion Week

19/03/2001

Poznan Fashion Week, once Poland’s leading exhibition venue for textiles, footwear and leather, continues to suffer from lower attendance levels and fewer exhibitors.

At last week’s fair, only some of the halls of the exhibition centre were occupied and visitor levels were noticeably down on previous years. In the two halls occupied by leather and footwear industry, domestic shoe producers were heavily outnumbered by importers and distributors, whilst the tanning sector was represented by only two companies.

"This reflects the actual situation in leather and footwear sectors in Poland’ –said Mrs Aleksandra Krysiak – Director of the Polish Chamber of Shoe and leather Industry (PCSLI) – ‘consumers are not spending so much money for textiles and shoes, jobless figures are very high and the level of optimism of consumers low’.

She said however that the May "Leather-Shoes 2001" fair venue which will be held between 16th and 18th May in Lodz (central Poland) will attract more Polish leather and footwear producers. "We have now more than 10% more exhibition space booked and more and more customers are enquiring with us" – she added.
