Legislation promises better protection for Polish shoe producers

19/03/2001

If – as looks likely – the Polish upper parliament moves to amend an existing law, then the country’s shoe manufacturing sector can look forward to better protection against imports of footwear ‘dumped’ from the far east, and an end to the tide of imports that continue to arrive supported by false documentation.

Zbigniew Kaniewski – Chief of the parliamentary economic committee – said that the main advantage of the new regulations was transparency.  "It will not be possible to import Chinese shoes from Vietnam and with Vietnamese certificates of origin,"  said Kaniewski, who nevertheless noted that the amendment would only go some way towards improving the competitiveness of the domestic shoe manufacturing sector in relation to imported products.
