Tanner`s institute for the environment opened in Brazil
As part of its ongoing drive to minimise the industry’s impact on the environment, CICB – the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry – has created the Institute of The Environment For The Leather Sector.
Based in the FIESP Building in Sao Paulo, the Institute is aimed at both promoting environmental awareness within the industry, and building bridges with external research, academic and environment organisations.
The stated aims of the institute are as follows:
- To generate technical innovation resulting in the optimisation of treatment processing methods of leather solid waste and effluents
- To develop and monitor environmental quality optimisation projects;
- To make public and promote the use of the so-called clean technologies in the tanning process
- To monitor companies in their actions geared towards obtaining the ISO 14000 environmental management certificate.
The ceremony for the official launch of the Institute of the Environment for the Leather Sector will take place tomorrow (March 20th 2001) on the 16th floor of the FIESP Building, Avda. Paulista 1313, Sao Paulo, SP, at 11:00.
