Irving Tanning and Schweizer Leather join forces in Asia
Irving Tanning USA and the Schweizer Leather Company of Germany have entered into an agreement under which one of Asia’s largest shoe leather tanneries will be jointly operated by the two companies.
Known as Irving Schweizer Asia, the new company will take control of the tannery in China from Irving’s Asian subsidiary, Irving Asia Partners, which has given the company an operating presence in China for the last five years and last year processed 23 million sq. ft of shoe upper leather. With the involvement of Schweizer, it is expected that the tannery will increasingly move into the production of upholstery leather, with production eventually being split between shoe and upholstery leather.
