RIP YMCA man

19/03/2001

Though not industry news in the strictest sense, no weekly round-up of the world’s leather stories would be complete without mention of the passing of Glenn Hughes, also known as ‘Leatherman’ from the band ‘Village People’

With their hit records, ‘YMCA’ and ‘In the Navy’ the group provided the soundtrack for a generation of people growing up in the late 1970s and early 80s.  With his trademark leather suit and matching cap Hughes was the ‘biker’ of the group, whose costumes also included a Red Indian, a traffic cop, a sailor and a construction worker.

Hughes died last week aged fifty, and will be buried in his beloved leather suit.
