Raw hides and skins imports on the up in China
The China Leather Industry Association’s analysis of the first six months of 2026 shows that tanners and traders imported 749,000 tonnes of raw hides and skins over the period.
This is an increase of 7% compared to the same months in 2025.
The total value of the imported material was $600 million, up by 2.9% year on year. Semi-finished leather imports amounted to 295,000 tonnes, costing $400 million.
These figures represent falls of 5.9% in volume and of 14.8% in value. For finished leather, the volumes of imported material were 18,000 tonnes, with a value of $270 million, down by 2.2% and 5.7%, respectively.
