Cargill resumes beef production in Colorado

US agribusiness group Cargill plans to resume beef production at its Fort Morgan, Colorado, facility in September after unionised workers voted to accept a new labour agreement, ending a dispute that halted cattle slaughtering at the plant in April.

Around 1,700 employees are expected to return to work from August 24, with slaughtering operations scheduled to restart during the week beginning September 7.

The development comes as the US beef sector faces record cattle prices and the smallest national herd in 75 years, putting pressure on processors as livestock costs continue to rise faster than beef prices.
