Leather export values are down but weight is up for Brazil

Hide and leather exports from Brazil in the first seven months of 2026 brought in revenues of $628.3 million.

In terms of quantity, packers, tanners and traders shipped 104 million square-metres of material, weighing 31,500 tonnes.

In comparison with the same months in 2025, these figures represent, Brazil’s leather exports this year were down by 5% in value, and by 2.9% in area. However, in terms of weight, the January-July 2026 figures represent an increase of 5.8%.

The states of Rio Grande do Sul, São Paul, Paraná and Goiás were the biggest contributors. In total, 22 of Brazil’s 26 states were involved in exporting leather to markets overseas during the period.
