Researchers in China urged to play a bigger role in global industry
The leather industry in China celebrated two technical events in parallel in July. Jinan, the capital of Shandong province, was the host city for the 16th National Leather Science and Technology Conference and the 27th annual meeting of the China Leather Industry Association’s science and technology commission.
More than 300 delegates attended to hear presentations and take part in discussions on digitalisation (including AI), innovation and low-carbon strategies.
There were six keynote presentations, 32 other oral presentations and 92 poster presentations.
At the Jinan events, vice-chairman of the China Leather Industry Association, Chen Zhanguang, encouraged young researchers and technical professionals in China to become more actively involved in the the global leather industry.
He said one way for them to do this was to apply to become part of the Young Leather Scientist Grants (YLSG) programme that the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS) runs.
