New sustainability report marks a step forward for GSC
Leather chemicals group GSC has published its sustainability report for 2025. The group’s head of research and development, Dr Francesco Serafini, said the new report marks a step forward compared to the sustainability reports GSC has published annually since 2019.
He explained that there was more to the report this time than “simply describing what we are doing”. The 2025 measures the group’s activity against international standards.
For this new report, which has the title ‘Mission To The Future’, the group has followed the Voluntary Standards for SMEs (VSMEs), developed by advisory body the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group in 2023.
GSC chose to do this before it was obliged to do so, Dr Serafini explained. He said: “We do not believe environmental responsibility ought to wait for regulatory deadlines.”
Chief executive, Adriano Serafini, said 2025 had been “a complex year”, but he insisted GSC had achieved encouraging results, including financial stability, important innovations and an ongoing commitment to its people.
The opening in 2025 of the group’s new leather innovation hub at Zermeghedo, near Vicenza, was a major milestone, GSC said.
Adriano Serafini pointed out the new report had also flagged up areas for improvement, including in water and energy consumption. “We welcome these areas for improvement as an opportunity,” the chief executive said. “We are already working on them in keeping with our values and our mission.”
