Figures from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) show that, by mid-July, abattoirs in the US had processed 14.8 million head of cattle.

It said that by the same point in the calendar last year, almost 16.2 million head of cattle had gone to slaughter in the US, which means the year-on-year decline is 8.4%.
