Leather sector included in TCLF skills push

The metaskills4TCLF project has reported progress on a range of skills development initiatives aimed at supporting Europe's textile, clothing, leather and footwear (TCLF) sectors.

Partners recently met in Athens, Greece, for the project's sixth partners' meeting, where they reviewed developments as the initiative enters its third year.

According to project partners, work is advancing on 11 national TCLF skills strategies, the creation of new TCLF Regional Skills Partnerships and activities designed to improve the attractiveness of careers within the sectors.

The meeting also reviewed progress on the EU Digital Fashion Campus, which is expected to offer 36 micro-courses supported by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies.

Leather industry organisation COTANCE said the discussions underlined the importance of ensuring that the leather sector is represented in Europe's skills transition, including in areas such as digital learning, immersive training and regional cooperation.

Project partners said the initiative is moving from identifying skills gaps towards implementing measures intended to address them, with a focus on supporting the long-term development of the TCLF industries.
