VGCT honours Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer
The VGCT (the German association of leather technologists and chemists) has honoured Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer with its Annual award at FILK Leather Days in Münster, recognising his many years of service to the association and his longstanding contribution to the leather industry.
Presenting the award on behalf of the VGCT at the opening of the afternoon session, Professor Michael Meyer described Dr Tegtmeyer as one of the leading experts and moderators in the field of sustainability. He said Dr Tegtmeyer’s contributions have significantly strengthened the future viability and reputation of leather.
The presentation took place during the 2026 FILK Leather Days conference, which began today in Münster, Germany, bringing together 143 delegates from across the international leather value chain. Hosted by the FILK Freiberg Institute and the VGCT, the two-day event has attracted representatives from brands, tanneries, chemical companies and machinery suppliers.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Thomas Scholten of Eberhard Karls University Tübingen. His presentation, titled “Global and regional nitrogen cycles and their influence on livestock farming”, examined the environmental role of nitrogen cycles and their implications for livestock production.
Over the course of the conference, delegates will hear 23 presentations covering the latest technical innovations, sustainability developments and regulatory updates affecting the leather industry.
