Scottish Leather Group launches encircol
The Scottish Leather Group has announced the launch of encircol, a new engineered biomaterials company focused on developing higher-value applications for collagen-derived by-products from leather manufacturing.
Built around the group's Biopro technology, encircol will seek to expand the use of collagen-based materials beyond their existing applications in aviation, automotive and mass transit seating.
The company said it will focus on developing material solutions for sectors including construction, energy and advanced manufacturing, with an emphasis on meeting industrial requirements for performance, processability, repeatability and manufacturability.
encircol said its work will include technical validation and the development of application pathways designed to support wider industrial adoption. The company also plans to work with partners across different sectors to explore potential uses for its materials.
According to encircol, its aim is to convert residual biological resources into engineered materials that can support more efficient use of resources while creating new commercial opportunities for collagen-rich by-products.
