Castore acquires majority stake in Grenson Shoes
British sportswear retailer Castore has acquired a 75% stake in traditional footwear brand Grenson Shoes.
Founded in Northampton in 1866, Grenson is known internationally for its leather footwear, particularly its wingtip styles. The company supplied boots to British soldiers during both world wars and has since expanded into women's footwear, trainers and accessories.
The acquisition, made through Castore's parent company J Carter Sporting Club Limited, follows its purchase of heritage outerwear brand Belstaff last year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Castore co-founder Tom Beahon said the acquisition reflects the company's belief in the long-term value of heritage brands and its ambition to support British brands as they grow internationally.
