Slight decline in number of tannery employees in Brazil
Figures that national tanning industry association CICB has shared put the total number of people employed in leather manufacturing in Brazil at 30,929 at the end of April.
This represents a fall of 125 people, or 0.4%, compared to the figure 12 months earlier.
The state of Rio Grande do Sul had the largest number, with 8,047, up by 1.3% year on year. The state of São Paulo had the second-biggest number with 6,353, down by 2%.
Six other Brazilian states had more than 1,000 people making leather in April 2026. They were Paraná, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and Santa Catarina.
