China: bag imports see double-digit growth

Figures from the China Leather Industry Association show that Chinese finished product manufacturers exported bags with a value of more than $9.5 billion in the first four months of this year, a fall of 4% compared to the same months last year. 

Over the same period, brands and retailers imported into China bags with a value of nearly $2 billion, an increase of 18.6%. 

When it came to leather garments, there were substantial jumps in the value of imports and exports. Chinese manufacturers shipped leather garments worth $38.6 million over the four-month period, up by 42.8% year on year. 

Imports of leather garments over the same period reached $42.9 million in value, an increase of 31.5%.
