Imports of raw hides and skins still on the rise in China
Following the pattern of recent months, China’s imports of raw hides and skins went up in volume in the January-April period, but down in value compared to the same months last year.
The China Leather Industry Association has put the import volume of raw hides for the first four months of the year at 505,000 tonnes, up by 1.7% year on year. This raw material had a value of $400 million, down by 4.9% compared to the same period in 2025.
Imports of semi-finished hides reached 200,000 tonnes in volume and a value of $260 million, decreases of 10.8% and 20.1% respectively.
Finished product manufacturers brought 11,000 tonnes of finished leather into China over the same period, paying $170 million, falls of 9% in volume and of 5.1% in value year on year.
