The Savar leather estate in Bangladesh has received more than 79,000 sacrificial animal hides by the evening of Eid-al-Adha, according to local media reports citing the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).

Reports said 78,515 of the hides were from cattle or buffalo, while 703 were from goats or sheep. Officials said the number was expected to rise further overnight as bulk trading continued.

Local media also reported complaints from seasonal traders about low hide prices at warehouses, with some sellers claiming offers were below government-fixed rates. Industry representatives reportedly linked the situation to cash shortages and difficult trading conditions.

According to local media reports, the Bangladesh Tanners Association expects the industry to collect around 10 million sacrificial hides during this year’s Eid season.
