Positive start to 2026 for leather garments continues in China
Leathergoods manufacturers in China achieved exports of just over $7 billion in the first three months of 2026, a decrease of 1.1% compared to the same period in 2025.
Imported leathergoods fell much more steeply, reaching just under $1.5 billion, down by 20%.
Over the same period, though, leather garment manufacturers in China achieved strong growth. Exports of clothing made from leather were worth $33.5 million in the first quarter of 2026, up by more than 50% year on year.
An increase in the value of imports of leather garments over the first quarter show that leather clothing is also popular in the domestic market. Imports had a value of $34 million, up by 27.8% year on year.
