Electric vehicles are making an impact in Germany

The German automotive market registered 327,700 new electric passenger cars in the first four months of 2026, an increase of 33% compared to the same months last year.

New registrations of battery electric vehicles reached 224,000 across the four-month period, up by 41% year on year. There were also registrations of 103,700 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, an increase of 18%.

Industry association VDA has said that the figures for April alone show that well over one in three new registrations was for an electric passenger car.
