Mercosur-EU trade deal comes into provisional application
A trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur economic communities will come into provisional application on May 1.
The European Commission said the interim agreement will bring “immediate, tangible benefits for EU businesses, workers, and citizens”.
The agreement will gradually eliminate import duties on over 91% of EU goods exported to the Mercosur countries, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay.
EU farmers and agrifood producers will also see lower or eliminated duties, making their products more competitive in Mercosur, the Commission said.
Discussions are ongoing on full ratification of the trade deal.
