The British Footwear Association has appointed Ian Cartwright as chief executive officer, effective May 6, 2026. He will succeed Richard Shetliffe, who steps down in early June after two years in the role.

Mr Cartwright is currently chief operating officer at Mahabis and is a long-standing BFA member. Chair Jane Wilson said he brings strong industry insight and an understanding of the challenges facing footwear businesses.

The BFA said the appointment supports its aim to strengthen its role as a credible industry voice and provide practical value to members. Mr Cartwright said he looks forward to working with members and partners during a period of change and opportunity.
