More raw hides, less wet blue and finished leather imports for China
The China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) has calculated export revenues of $14.7 billion for the wider industry in the first two months of 2026. This represents an increase of nearly 12% compared to the same months last year.
Leather manufacturers imported 237,000 tonnes of raw hides and skins in January and February, investing $190 million in this raw material. This is an increase of 1.9% in volume and a decrease of 5.3% in value year on year.
They also brought into China 89,000 tonnes of semi-finished leather with a value of $120 million, down by 21.9% in volume and by 28.4% in.
Finished product manufacturers also brought in more than 4,400 tonnes on finished leather with a value of $70.3 million, reductions of 25.8% in volume and of 19.8% in value compared to the first two months of 2025.
