JLIA unveils company and material-level leather certifications

18/03/2026

The Japan Leather and Leather Goods Industries Association (JLIA) announced two  certification programmes at the APLF exhibition in Hong Kong to support responsible leather sourcing worldwide.

JLIA Sustainable Certification, launched in 2025, covers company-level ESG performance, including governance, labour and human rights, health and safety, environmental management and ethics, verified through independent audits.

Japan Eco Leather Certification, established in 2009, addresses material-level environmental and chemical compliance, including wastewater management, raw hide traceability and substance limits checked by independent laboratories.

Both certifications are open to leather supply-chain companies globally, valid for three years, and offer dual assurance for suppliers and materials aligned with international standards.
