Market Intelligence: Impressions of APLF, plus war worries
A new issue of our exclusive Market Intelligence newsletter went live on March 17.
In this issue, we bring you some immediate impressions of the 2026 APLF exhibition, which took place in Hong Kong from March 12-14. The event clearly remains an important gathering place for global leather industry professionals, the report says, but had noticeably fewer exhibitors compared to past editions.
This year’s exhibition also suffered because of the recent outbreak of war in the Middle East, with the travel plans of many disrupted, affecting attendance.
And on this subject, Market Intelligence makes it clear that if the war continues, it will present a major problem for the leather industry. Energy costs will rise, global logistics will become more complex and demand for leather could suffer.
In the region itself, the Middle East has become an important market for many high-end products that use leather, including luxury cars and furniture as well as bags and shoes.
Brands and their suppliers will need to keep a close watch on developments.
