Market Intelligence: The importance of standing out from the crowd
Our most recent Market Intelligence report is now live. This time the main focus is on the recent edition of Lineapelle, which took place in Milan from February 11-13.
The main findings are that, owing to the Winter Olympics and the lack this time of the useful overlap that often occurs with footwear fair Micam and leathergoods event Mipel, the attendance was lower than at many recent editions. However, the quality of the visitors, rather than quantity, made up for this and it was possible for serious business discussions to take place.
Something that emerged clearly from these talks was that very tight demands for uniformity in some markets, including automotive, may have led to a lack of appreciation among customers of leather’s full potential.
Market Intelligence suggests that too much uniformity has shifted focus away from the material’s intrinsic properties and that now would be a good time to bring those qualities back to the forefront of the leather sector’s conversations with customers.
In addition, greater flexibility would make it easier for tanners to make good use of all the raw material available, preventing “bottlenecks that are not really necessary” in demand for specific types of hide.
