Market Intelligence: A call for courage in 2026

We published our first Leatherbiz Market Intelligence of the year on January 6.

It says clearly that the global leather industry could have another “very problematic” year in 2026 if “ positive impulses” fail to emerge.

The report’s authors add that they hope to see these positive signals soon, in the course of the first quarter of the new year.

And if some momentum is to build, Market Intelligence says, as it has many times in the past, that the industry itself is going to have to lead the communication effort. The report says: “Arguments for using leather are more than sufficient, and more than adequately known.”

In its list of the most important qualities of leather, it mentions the material’s propensity to offer protection, comfort, versatility and durability.

“What is missing,” it says, “is persuasive power on the side of the leather industry, and trust and courage on the side of manufacturers.”
